Breakdowns always happen at the worst time — in the middle of Canal Road traffic, on the Ring Road at night, or halfway to Islamabad on the M-2. Here's what to do to stay safe and get moving again.
1. Get out of the traffic lane
If the car is still rolling, steer to the left side, hard shoulder or a side street. Avoid stopping on a bridge, flyover, bend or inside an underpass if you can help it.
2. Switch on hazard lights
Turn on hazards right away. At night, also keep the parking lights on.
3. Put out a warning triangle
Place it well behind the car, especially on the Ring Road and motorways where traffic is fast. Keep one in the boot at all times.
4. Get everyone to a safe spot
On fast roads, passengers should leave from the side away from traffic and stand behind the barrier. Never stand between the car and moving traffic.
5. Check the simple things
Fuel level, a temperature warning, a flat tyre or a dead battery are the most common causes. If the engine is overheating, don't open the radiator cap while it's hot.
6. Share your exact location
Drop a live location pin on WhatsApp. On a motorway, note the kilometre marker or the last interchange. On Canal Road, name the nearest underpass.
7. Call for recovery
If it's not a quick fix, call car recovery in Lahore. Tell the operator your car model, whether it's automatic, and where you want it dropped, so the right vehicle comes the first time.
8. Useful numbers
